After a top-level FP4, there were high expectations for Miguel Oliveira in qualifying, but an issue with the bike’s height device was crucial to his performance being far from the best, and limited the Portuguese time on the track.
The explanation appeared in a debrief a few moments ago: “Today was a day of growth, improvement and in FP4 we found a way to work with the bike which was great. I was able to be myself, drive well and consistently. Then in qualifying and on the first ride I felt I had a problem with my height measuring device and immediately went back to the garage and couldn’t use the other bike because the one is too different”.
The perception of the unexpected problem came at the worst time, and Oliveira could not show his best, due to the limitations he was suffering from: ‘The timing for this to happen was the worst so I had to go out on the trail without the bike height adjuster and as you can imagine all the power maps and everything else are made so that we have downforce and a lot of acceleration too to stop, which helps, and I had to adapt over two laps, but of course that was far from our true potential” .
And added: “It’s a pity that this happened and of course no one is happy, but these types of devices are very new to us and we have to physically understand which device is the best, the most reliable, and that is all. There is not much more to say.
