If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to create a renewable energy device that creates clean drinking water, now is your chance to find out!

As a partner and host of the final stage of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) DRINK Waves to Water Awardthe Institute of Coastal Studies invites members of the public to stop by the ECU Outer Banks campus on Wednesday March 30, from 12 p.m. to 2 view the devices and meet the teams.

The $3.3 million Waves to Water Prize has, over the past three years, challenged innovators to design and build wave-powered desalination devices in hopes of providing greater access to water. drinking water to remote coastal communities and disaster relief efforts.

The stakes are high because the DRINK Final starts March 30. The devices will roll out for five days in April when the weather cooperates, and $1 million in rewards are up for grabs! Grand prize winners will receive $500,000, and additional prizes totaling $500,000 will also be awarded for other individual metrics.

As if the innovation and potential technological advancements weren’t exciting enough, CSI and Jennette’s Pier have been selected to host the DRINK Finale and have been preparing for the event ever since.
