Walmart expands smart home selection with exclusive partnership on Roku devices

walmart launched an exclusive selection Roku smart home products including security cameras, video doorbells, lighting and outlets. The items, which will have connectivity with the Roku TV operating system, will be available in around 3,500 Walmart stores from October 17.

Initial capabilities of the new smart devices include the ability for users to see who’s ringing their doorbell through their TV and using the Roku voice remote to view video feeds. Roku Smart Home will also be compatible with third-party voice integrations.

“At Walmart, we are committed to providing our customers with technology to simplify and enhance their lives at everyday low prices,” Laura Rush, SVP, Electronics, Toys and Seasonal at Walmart US said in a statement. “Roku’s new line of smart home devices, available exclusively in-store at Walmart, makes it easy for our customers to enjoy the security and convenience offered by these new products from Roku.”

Roku products were developed in partnership with Wyze Labs and offer two-factor authentication (2FA), user data encryption, and secure boot, among other security features.

The launch of an exclusive selection of smart home items represents another way Walmart is stepping up its competition with Amazon, which offers its own smart home services through its Alexa voice assistant and associated devices. Amazon also recently expanded its smart home capabilities with the acquisition of iRobot for approximately $1.7 billion.
