Watsonville Police Determine Suspicious Device Is Kitchen Item, Streets Open – KION546


WATSONVILLE, CA. (KION-TV)- UPDATE August 11, 2022 at 10:21 a.m.– Watsonville police officers at the scene say the suspect device was determined to be a “slow cooker-like cooking device”, not an explosive device.

The scene is now clear and the bomb squad has concluded its investigation.

The streets will soon be reopened, according to our reporter on site.

Watsonville police said Second Street between Rodriguez and Main Street was closed due to the discovery of a suspicious device.

Police did not specify the object but said it was found in the 100 block of Second Street on Thursday morning around 8.30am.

The device was found near the courthouse by courthouse security.

Voluntary evacuations are in place. Police are asking people to avoid the area.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad has been notified and is responding to the scene.
